Both the Pennant and Mostyn families were prominent, wealthy and influential in the area. We started the walk in Whitford and followed bridleways down to the North Wales Pilgrim Way then went via Mertyn and followed footpaths by the side of Pennant Golf club and caravans down to Mertyn Downing. We walked through the vineyard and onto the quiet road at Glan y Don. Taking the footpath towards Downing and came across a very muddy and wet bit of footpath, surprising really as it has been so dry. We ended up outside the lovely gateway leading up to the old Downing Hall I think and returning into Whitford. We had 16 walkers in total and just a short sharp shower towards the end of the walk. We went back to Bodelwyddan Castle for coffee, a Great day had by all.
