Trying out some of the walks for later this year in North Yorkshire

Last week a group of us travelled to the Mytton Fold Hotel, in Langho, Blackburn to try out some of the walks we intend doing for our walking holidays.  Due to the weather conditions we only did 2 of them but planned others as well.  We walked a short 3 mile walk on the day we arrived in the village of Ribchester, which has a lot of history to it, and it was a lovely walk.  Following on from that we attempted the walk from Horton in Ribblesdale to Ribblehead approx 8 miles, as you see from the photos the ground was very slow going, and we realised we wouldn’t be able to do it in the day light.  It took us a lot longer to drive from the hotel to Settle to catch the train, and then find a place to buy a picnic lunch so we got Bob to drive us to Horton and walk from there.  When we had eaten a late lunch near High Birkwith we decided for safety’s sake to walk down to the road and walk back to Horton.  It was a gorgeous day, blue sky, no clouds but lots of snow and ice in patches.  We will go back again and do the walks again, but last week wasn’t the day we could do it.  I hope you like the photos.
